Brian and Charlie (along with 380 of their closest friends) tackled the brutal 65 mile, 11,000+ feet Off Road Assault on Mt. Mitchell in Pisgah National Forest. Charlie had a mechanical early in the race which limited him to just 3 gears and he still finished in 100th place with a time of 7hrs 50min. Brian wasn’t too far behind in 115th place and a time of 8hrs 5min.
Well Folks…Sean made a step toward working his way back from knee problems by rolling through the Begginer Men’s race at the Huck-a-Buck race on Sunday….his time of 1:12.27 was good for 22nd out of 37 riders…that says alot that he beat 15 riders given how long his recovery has taken, good to see him back sweating, covered in dirt and with his usual positive vibe……next up to the line was Ernie, who opted for the sufferage of expert men’s category…four laps of the 5.75 mile course with a NOON (HOT) start…he came away 8th despite repeated shifting and chain problems with his backup bike…c’mon UPS where’s his HammerHead?…….2 minutes later Bruce was up on the chopping block opting to race 3 laps in the Singlespeed category…after moving up to third, a dropped chain on the last lap resulted in a 1:33.27 finish good for fourth out of 23 racers. This category was unique in that riders had to stop each lap to finish a Pabst Blue Ribbon beer before being allowed to continue on. The alternative to not drinking..A TWO MINUTE PENALTY BOX on the course…had they been forties Bruce mentioned he would have sat out the penalty after the first lap forty…..check out the guys who organized the race Happy Fun Racing.
Well folks, they did it…Ernie and Charlie finished the big one on July 3rd after approximately 8 days of racing!!…this was a huge endeavor for both of them in terms of training, travel and expenses. They should definitely be proud of their 21st place finish as team 24/7, when you begin to look at the company they were keeping during the race, it solidifies their great effort even more. The website was one of the best sites I have ever seen and I realized I was checking in on them daily….hopefully will be looking for some details and pics soon from them…of course after they rest up….NICE WORK!
