Right on. I wish there was more and widely available information on this important subject. Keep the legs covered, especially below 60F for bicyclists and 50F for runners.

Thanks for helping us spread the word about the race; we appreciate it!

I found your blog when searching on AR socks (I'm overdue on buying about 6 new pair for an expedition race we're doing in Feb); still sold on the Smartwools? I've loved my Darn Tough and Patagonia brand socks, but thought I'd see what others prefer.

Thanks again for the link,
Grant

Hey Bruce, sorry I missed ya out there, but I had to work over the weekend :-( Maybe I'll make it next year. You should definitely start carrying a spare derailleur!...that makes 2 for 2 now doesn't it!? Congrats on the 4th place finish. Doing just one day of riding, like at PMBAR, is brutal. Doing two days must be truly heinous. Awesome job!

Need a 4th Teammate for this event !!!

Are you in interested in competing in the 8hr version of the Gold Nugget AR in Uwharrie National Forest parks (NC) and in need of a team?

The "Hoplites" were all set until recently when I got the call that one of my teammates couldn't make it due to work obligations (ughh) and so we are currently in the market for a 4th. We have been recruiting locally (Asheville NC, Richmond VA, Columbus OH) but finding someone (male or female) that is in shape enough to Bike/Run/Trek/Paddle for 7.5 - 8 hours and that doesn’t already have something going on next weekend has been a challenge.

About Us:
We (hoplites) cut our teeth in AR with a middle of the pack finish in the sport course of the 2007 Impossible Panther with our 3 person team. Our finish position was partly due to deciding that since there was no time cutoff for that course, we’d go for all the checkpoints for experience and fun’s sake. We are completely hooked and back again this fall for more. We bring to the table, 3 fairly competent navigators, several months run and bike training for all and a won't quit attitude. We're currently all male but not by design and would welcome the right person regardless of sex.

Post here, or better yet, send me an email directly if you are interested in having fun with a lighthearted but very motivated team. jesse.hagberg"at"gmail.com
