Team member Bruce Dale competed in the 4 Hour Garner EMS MTB race Saturday finishing 3rd among the Single speed racers and fourth among all SOLO male racers with 8 laps. Surprisingly among the 30 SOLO male racers the 2nd, 3rd and 4th places were all single speed riders! Check out the race reports for more details!
Brian finished his second marathon in 3:47:19 (32nd overall)…23 minutes better than last year.

Brian Thompson Raced as a member of Team Momentum, the team fared very well with a 2nd place 4-Male placing and 5th overall Pro-full course finish. The team finished in 22:16 raw time with a 3HR added penalty for “abandoned gear” for a final time of 25:16

Bruce and Brian competed in the 11/4 “Curse at the Crab” 6 hour MTB race at Lake Crabtree Park. After taking off two years to concentrate on race director duties, Bruce was able to race again, teaming up with two fellow Law Enforcement Officers; Dale Long and Rory Avant from S.C to form Palmetto-Tarheels. The trio was able to complete the entire bike leg, logging 33 miles and obtained all 18 points to gain a 50 pt. rogaine…
Despite some last minute snafus, Brian placed 3rd overall and 1st solo in the Enduring Freedom AR, a sprint AR held at San-Lee Park in Sanford.
Brian and Charlie (along with 380 of their closest friends) tackled the brutal 65 mile, 11,000+ feet Off Road Assault on Mt. Mitchell in Pisgah National Forest. Charlie had a mechanical early in the race which limited him to just 3 gears and he still finished in 100th place with a time of 7hrs 50min. Brian wasn’t too far behind…
Well Folks…Sean made a step toward working his way back from knee problems by rolling through the Begginer Men’s race at the Huck-a-Buck race on Sunday….his time of 1:12.27 was good for 22nd out of 37 riders…that says alot that he beat 15 riders given how long his recovery has taken, good to see him back sweating, covered in dirt…
Well folks, they did it…Ernie and Charlie finished the big one on July 3rd after approximately 8 days of racing!!…this was a huge endeavor for both of them in terms of training, travel and expenses. They should definitely be proud of their 21st place finish as team 24/7, when you begin to look at the company they were keeping…
Brian struggled early in this extreme navigation event and eventually lost his passport somewhere between CPs 13 and 14. Despite the mishap, Brian continued racing and finished all but the last leg in 21 hours.
Jeff and Brian traveled to the Catoctin Mountains in southern PA to compete in the Michaux Memorial Day Rogaine. The team came away with a 3rd overall and 1st all male finish in the 24hr event.
Charlie and Ernie teamed up with Beth Reyburn (TX) and Pete Stilwell (NM) as Team 24Seven for a 1st overall finish at the 3-day Rock, Roll, and Rattlesnake Challenge in Haskell, TX.
Three Triangle ARers made it for this epic race outside Brevard, NC. Bruce and Brian placed 18th out of 53 teams punching 4 of the 5 CPs in 11:48. Despite some significant mechanicals (broken seat post), Jeff and Charlotte rider Clay Faine also punched 4 CPs and placed 26th with a time of 17:46.
Ernie and Bruce competed in this relay style MTB race at San-Lee trails in Sanford finishing the day 2nd among the duo teams, one lap down from first place. Laps were around 5 miles with Bruce completing 6 and Ernie 5. Check out the race report for more details….

Brian, Charlie, and Ernie raced to 5th place overall in this brutal 40 hour race put on by Race Day.
Triangle AR had some great showings. Charlie placed 1st overall and Brian was 2nd, both as solo entries. And Jeff was on the first placed coed team. Another Hammer racer Dale Long of S.C finished 1st as a member of the winning 911 Police team.
Brian and Jeff participated in the American Bushwhacking Championship (Rogaine). Brian placed 6th overall and was the 3rd soloist, while Jeff placed 7th overall and was the 4th soloist.
Some additional race results: Bruce tied for first place in the Greenbrier Challenge (03:05), and Jeff Thompson and Steve Sowell took 11th in the Midnight Rush. Congrats to all!

After a 2.5 hour training bike ride, Brian and Bruce took 3rd in a very long and difficult “red” course at the local o-meet. Ernie, Charlie, and Kirsten Reff placed 10th in the Mountain Sports Festival AR. A slightly mis-plotted CP (due to mild hypothermia…don’t ask) combined with trying to navigate a blank section on the map with lots of posted property probably delayed us for an hour or more. It was a good result considering the stupid mistakes we made that day.
Bruce raced with a couple of other folks. He said it was mostly o-markers to find and not a true adventure race. Finished 6th in the 3 person category.

Brian, Bruce, Charlie, and Sean teamed up for this race in WV. In the end, only two teams finished ranked, but they both took “alternate” routes that allowed them to make the cut-offs. Josh’s diet is an annual training race, that proved quite difficult this year. Charlie, Bruce, Brian, and Ernie all went to VA to take part, and did quite well. They were the 2nd team and 5th overall in 10 hours and 40 minutes.
Charlie and Sean teamed up and placed 2nd in the 2-person category of this 24 hour moutain bike race. The loop was 9 miles and included some decent short climbs (for eastern NC), quick descents, and lots of roots. Charlie got in 10 laps, anywhere from 50 minutes to just over an hour. Ernie raced the 40 miler, and placed 33rd out of 75 finishing males. His time of 9 hours 33 minutes was almost 45 minutes faster than last year! We all raced the soup bowl, which is an individual event. It’s a 2 mile cross country run, a 5 mile mountain bike, and a 2 mile cross country run. Here are the results:
